چکیده

The problem of assigning appropriate pitch spellings is one of the most fundamental problems in the analysis of digital music information. We present an algorithm for nding the optimal spelling based on the Spiral Array model, a geometric model embodying the relations in tonality. The algorithm does not require the key context to be determined. Instead, it uses a center of e ect (c.e.), an interior point in the Spiral Array model, as a proxy for the key context. Plausible pitch spellings are measured against this c.e., and the optimal pitch is selected using the nearest neighbor criteria. Two examples are given from Beethoven's Sonata Op. 109 to illustrate the algorithm. The algorithm is implemented and the results used in MuSA a music visualization software using the Spiral Array. We present and analyze computational results from test runs on MIDI les of two movements from Beethoven's Piano Sonatas Op.79 and Op.109.

Homograph Disambiguation Using Formal Concept Analysis

Homographs are words with identical spellings but different origins and meanings. Natural language processing must deal with the disambiguation of homographs and the attribution of senses to them. Advances have been made using context to discriminate homographs, but the problem is still open. Disambiguating homographs is possible using formal concept analysis. This paper discusses the issues, i...

Pitch Spelling with Conditionally Independent Voices

We introduce a new approach for pitch spelling from MIDI data based on a probabilistic model. The model uses a hidden sequence of variables, one for each measure, describing the local key of the music. The spellings in the voices evolve as conditionally independent Markov chains, given the hidden keys. The model represents both vertical relations through the shared key and horizontal voice-lead...

Prosodic cues to word usage

In this study we examined prosodic characteristics of a word used in several distinct senses in a task-oriented corpus of spontaneous speech. We compared the pitch characteristics of the word “right” used in three different senses: as an acknowledgment, as a direction, and as an affirmative answer to a question. Significant differences in intonation for different classes of usage were found, al...

Prosodic forms and pragmatic meanings: the case of the discourse marker ‘no’ in Slovak

This paper provides a first analysis of the Slovak word [no] that is extremely ambiguous in terms of pragmatic and discourse functions and can correspond to ‘okay’, ‘yes’, ‘well’, ‘mhm’, ‘so’, and others. We report that the function of backchannel/continuer is the most easily disambiguated by the pitch contour, duration, and other features. Other functions, while also frequent in our corpus, re...

Different Types of Pitch Angle Control Strategies Used in Wind Turbine System Applications

The most common controller in wind turbine is the blade pitch angle control in order to get the desired power. Controlling the pitch angle in wind turbines has a direct impact on the dynamic performance of the machine and fluctuations in the power systems. Due to constant changes in wind speed, the wind turbines are of nonlinear and multivariate system. The design of a controller that can ad...
